Lawmaker Pulls Bill That Would Have Allowed For Armed Teachers

A Chalmette lawmaker shelved his proposal to let school employees who have a concealed handgun permit to go to work armed.

Rep. Ray Garofalo pulled his bill Wednesday after getting negative feedback from the House criminal justice committee.

Garofalo said he wanted to send a message that violent criminals who come to schools will meet armed resistance. But members of the committee said the bill was not a solution to violence at schools and would only add new risks.
