Washoe considering police officers at every middle school

Washoe County middle schools could have police officers if school board members and district officials can get their wish list funded.

A request under consideration would involve spending $1.3 million to assign an officer to each middle school.

It’s a recommendation that school district Police Chief Mike Mieras and others at the district have said is needed in light of issues at district middle schools, including the October shooting at Sparks Middle School and the 2006 shooting at Pine Middle School.
